Hey - Robert here.
In today’s edition:
Why you can’t come up with strategic content ideas
Why you need a strong brand foundation
How to build strong brand clarity using a 5-step framework
Let’s be honest.
We’ve all had moments behind the curtain where we:
Woke up not knowing what to post.
Scrolled Instagram for “inspiration” that just led to confusion
Felt like we were becoming a copy of someone else
And sure, that worked for a while… kind of.
But here’s the truth:
Long-term impact requires more than chasing short-term trends.
Because to build a sustainable, authentic brand, you need a clear creative direction.
A system that's uniquely yours.
And today, I’ll walk you through the exact 5-step process I use to build creator brands that actually grow.
1. Define Your Why
Most creators start by making content.
But real brands? They start with a mission.
Don’t be a sailor drifting with no map,
Be the one with a compass and a clear direction.
Here’s how to uncover your “why”:
1. Identify Your Core Passion
What’s something you could talk about for hours?
What are your passions, drives, hobbies, and obsessions?
2. Reflect on Past Struggles
What challenges have you faced?
What lessons could you share that would help someone?
3. Define the Problem You Can Solve
What can you help others with in a meaningful way?
What can you bring to your audience that would benefit them?
With a clear purpose behind your brand, any idea or passion can become a powerful starting point.
The key is to overlap that passion with your personal experience. That’s where real connection happens.
Because to build something meaningful, you need more than just interest.
Here are successful Creators and Brands that have done it:
Life of Riza: Visual Storytelling
Mark Rober: Science Made Exciting
Philipp Humm: Learn Storytelling easily
Chef Jack Ovens: Share Meal Preps
Jerry Lee: Helping Anyone Get a Job
When you get this right, you will never run out of ideas because you’re no longer just creating content,
You’re building your own thing.
2. Find Your Target Audience
Posting content for ‘‘everyone’’ isn’t the answer to a successful brand.
Because when you speak to everyone, you connect with no one.
Visualize one person - your ideal follower.
Now ask:
What’s their age?
Where do they live?
What’s their occupation?
What are their interests?
What do they fear?
What platforms do they use?
What are their pain points?
What are their dreams?
Now you can speak directly to 1 person - that is your whole audience.
You can identify their problems, desires, and challenges and learn how to connect with them on a deeper level.
Because here’s what you need to know…
When you make content for that person, you make it for a broad community.
Make it personal and passion-driven, and focus on being yourself.
3. Determine Your Value
Now that you know your target audience, determine what people will get from your content.
Most successful creators combine 2–3 of these core value types:
Education: Content that teaches and shares valuable insights.
Tutorials
Breakdowns
Tips & tricks
Most suitable for solving a specific problem they have.
Entertainment: Content that brightens someone’s day and stops them from scrolling.
Jokes
Skits
Visual spectacles
Powerful content to create shareable experiences and grow your audience.
Inspiration: Inspiring people to reach better goals.
Personal stories
Facts
Motivational posts
Works best to showcase your reached goals, intriguing people to go after their goals.
Reletability: Content to form deeper connections with your audience. Best for building authentic communities.
Share identity
Personal experiences
Life events
This content format is the most suitable for the middle of your marketing funnel.
You can show what you have gone through, forming stronger bonds with your audience and fostering their trust in you as a creator.
You can also share behind-the-scenes to show the day in your life.
Here’s where it gets interesting…
The most engaging creators blend these values strategically, choosing at least 2 content pillars at the same time.
Imagine you are a full-time business owner.
You can make these video styles:
Education: Teaching the audience how to negotiate a deal to save money.
Entertainment: Show what it’s like to travel to new cities and do business.
Inspiration: Introduce others to the business world and the money they could be making.
Relatability: Expose the struggles of building a business full-time.
This combination can give you creative flexibility while maintaining a consistent brand identity.
4. Build a Repeatable Content System
Now you have a clear understanding of:
The ‘‘why’’ behind your brand
Your target audience
The value you want to share
It’s finally time to create a sustainable content system.
This is when you can bring your ideas to life through a repeatable content system that will be both consistent and valuable to the viewers.
But instead of using a single video format for all of your content pillars,
I propose a different approach.
Develop 2-3 distinct content series that guide your audience through different stages of their journey with you:
Awareness → Interest → Consideration → Conversion
To successfully lead viewers down your funnel to conversions, you need to build trust while moving viewers toward deeper engagement.
For this, you should have multiple values going on at the same time.
Here are some examples from the best creators and brands:
Daniel Dalen: Relatability + Education + Inspiration
Duolingo: Entertainment + Education
Tom Noske: Education + Relatability + Inspiration
Bad Hambres Burritos: Inspiration + Relatability
This approach ensures you'll never run out of ideas while maintaining consistent brand alignment.
5. Define Your Audience Archetype
Imagine you are a professional bodybuilder.
How do you think viewers would perceive you?
As their mentor, best friend, or perhaps peer?
This is what an audience archetype is all about.
It’s your audience's perception of you that shapes every interaction.
Here are the most widely used archetypes:
Mentor: A wise guide who shares expertise and direction
Friend: A relatable peer who walks alongside them
Rebel: A challenger who questions norms and inspires change
Hero: An inspirational figure who empowers others to act
Make content that’s tailored, personal, and niche with a specific tone that you want to communicate with your audience.
Whether you want to educate, entertain, or be relatable, this consistency will create a cohesive brand experience that resonates deeply with your ideal audience.
This is it. That’s how you can build a strong foundation for your brand.
